1st to 2nd July....Elkhart, Indiana to Manistee, Michigan.....

On the road again (our theme song)....today 224 miles north to Manistee, Michigan...the campsite we stayed at in Elkhart was large and our site nice but a strange set up with our only access route for leaving was to drive through the site in front of us...ummm not sure what would happen if they were full !!
This lovely old truck now used as a billboard at the local crossroads...
It was a pleasant drive on the US31 N which is of the same standard as an interstate and runs along side of Lake Michigan but too many trees or properties to be able to get our first glimpse of the lake..mainly forest for the first hundred miles or so then very neat farmlands and homesteads, sugar cane, blueberries  and their big crop which is cherries....the only slow part today was through the road works in the town of Holland (big Scandinavian influence in Michigan and Wisconsin from the early settlers) lots of windmill style buildings but none that I could snap as we passed....

We crossed the state line into Michigan about 10 miles from our campsite in Indiana...best pic I could get with the road works !
This pic should be before the one above but leaving it here as I had a big problem with the blog yesterday evening due to me forgetting to add a couple of photos which I wanted to put in chronological order (you know me that OCD thing)  that I spent 2 hours basically back where I had started at 8.30 !!!! So I went to bed !!!!
A little piece of England....
Karen remember the blue soft top one I had and going to Wittering for the day to catch a few rays :)...great memories...
2nd July....Camp Harris at the excellent Little River Casino RV Park....probably the best campsite we have ever stayed at and very popular as we did try to stay for an extra 2 nights but they were fully booked with a long waiting list....campers even boon docking in the huge casino carpark waiting to get a spot in the park...
The Manistee River which flows into Lake Michigan...
We walked along the very pretty river walk accessed from the neat historic Victorian town of Manistee....Yorkieman of course wearing his Union Jack T-shirt as it's 4th July weekend....all taken in good part by our American cousins...
One of the many very nice boats moored along the river walk...
Memories for Yorkieman as he drove one of these for a day while "working" for Mount Gay Rum at Cowes Week on the IOW....
Part of Main Street, Manistee....
The river and walk is behind this building...
Manistee....
Next stop is the beach at Manistee, loads of events this weekend including fireworks, parades, fairs and this Classic Car Show...
Lovely old cars and now time for some very yummy ice cream :)
The Manistee Lighthouse on Lake Michigan....
Newley repainted ready for the Independence Day weekend...
Manistee is about 4 miles from our campsite at Little River Casino..

More soon from..
The Sunny Campers...

  1. All that blue sky and sunshine! Too much. Looking good. Just returned from a days golf with the boys on one of our county card days, went to Piltdown GC near Uckfield, arranged by AP. Good course, no bunkers but lots of heather!! Enjoyable day - 8 of us 0 including Clive who exchanged on his house in Portugal today - he's a happy boy. Take care A&M xx

Like that your are still showing the flag ,could have been a little tricky on The 4th though.Hope you were able to get all your maintenance work on the rig done.
    Enjoy.

    1. They take the British flag in good part....
Have managed to do a few maintenance things but still not fixed fan, think it will have to be complete replacement, meanwhile a/c working overtime....sorry but hot and sunny here again, while posting this we are looking out on a beautiful blue lake think it will have to be a cup of tea taken down to the beach (bit early for a sundowner !!)...do feel for you all with the rotten summer weather so far..
      Glad you are enjoying retirement....
      Cheers...
